We are hosting the 1st Annual IGDA Leadership Forum Europe

IGDA Denmark is proud to announce that this year Copenhagen is going to host the 1st Annual IGDA Leadership Forum Europe!

The event will take place on the 20th and 21st of October 2011.

What is IGDA Leadership Forum EU?
The IGDA Leadership Forum is a conference focusing on management and advancement of games production. This event will be valuable for project managers, producers, team leaders, studio directors and anybody who is interested in learning and sharing techniques to create successful games.

Call for proposals
Currently they are seeking proposals from speakers throughout the games industry with extensive experience in games production and leadership. You can read more about IGDA Leadership Forum and the call for proposals here.

The program and schedule is being developed by a committee of industry veterans and welcomes nominations of qualified speakers.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

It has been my privilege and honour to act as Chairman of IGDA Denmark over the past year. Throughout my term, I have seen the organization transform itself to a new level of professionalism and service to the local game development community.

Of particular note is the expansion of our Chapter SIG meetings. We have a vibrant community for Audio, WIG, Unity, and will be breathing new life into the Game Design and Biz Dev SIGs in the coming year.

Additionally, cooperation between industry and education is further facilitated through IGDA being represented on the DADIU Coordination Committee.

Finally, we have been selected to host the inaugural IGDA Leadership Forum: Europe on 20-21st October 2011. The call for speakers is out – you can sign up here.

It has been a turbulent year for me, personally, in the games industry. My former employer took a strategic decision to close down operations in Denmark, leading to the opportunity to head up a new venture in the games space. However, this has, in turn, forced me to evaluate where I spend my “pro bono” time. I have always had the international perspective squarely in mind, and have taken the decision to step down as chairman in order to focus my efforts in this direction.

However, not only will I remain centrally involved in Leadership Forum: Europe, but I will also be working to kick off a new initiative…something I’m calling IGDA Nordic. The philosophy is simple – in the same way as Nordic Game Program acts to facilitate cooperation across the region at the business level, IGDA Nordic will endeavour to bring closer cooperation across the region at a grass roots level. I’m not entirely sure how this is going to function (or even *if* this is going to function), but the aim is to bring local chapters closer together. It might be arranging for guest speakers, or knowledge sharing of new activities and processes across regions.

What I do know is that this will only work if we *all* work together. If you want help, or want to help, then please get in touch – dm (at) igda (dot) dk,http://dk.linkedin.com/in/davemariner, or http://www.facebook.com/dave.mariner have all been known to reach me, as as tapping me on the shoulder at bars

I’m certain, however, that IGDA Denmark will continue to go from strength to strength. Jesper Taxbøl was unanimously returned as the new Chairman, and Dajana Dimovska continues in her role as Vice Chair. I wish them the best of luck, and look forward to helping whenever I can.

Finally, I’d like to thank each and every member of IGDA Denmark for their support and efforts over the past year. I look very much forward to continuing to play my part in helping the local community, both through direct efforts and through collaboration with others in the region.

Best regards,

David Mariner.
